The latest prerelease CS:GO patch has a number of changes for fans to get excited about. The hitbox improvements mean less awkward from-behind blunders, vent diving on Nuke is now a thing of the past, and that noisy train on Overpass has been finally fixed. Get the low down on the latest CS:GO update, and read the full patch notes below.
For years, CS:GO players have complained about hitboxes when aiming at the head of an opponent from behind. In late 2015, Valve shipped a significant update to CS:GO’s hitbox system, and today we see these hitboxes further improved.
‘Bullets that penetrate the neck into the head will now count as headshots’. Players should no longer experience shots that look and feel like headshots, but don’t count as one. The patch notes state ‘this should make it more intuitive to tell when an attack from behind will result in a headshot’, and should result in less embarrassing moments when all your friends are spectating you!
Valve were testing their B-site Nuke changes on ShortNuke, the map used in the Wingman game type, and it seems that these changes are now being implemented into the full version of the map, with the hope of further balancing it.
These changes start with a new approach to the vent system. There is no longer a direct access point to the B-bombsite from vents, and instead the access point has been shifted towards the double doors. Furthermore, toxic has been removed, and the boxes in the corner of the site have been shifted backwards.
The new vent access point by double doors.
RIP Toxic.
Additionally, the map has been further optimised to support those on lower settings, and the gap between the silos on A has been blocked.
These changes should help further balance the map, and Valve hopes it will encourage the pro’s to start considering Nuke as a pick. Nuke isn’t going anywhere, and we should start to see the map being picked by more teams as development continues.
How many times have you been unable to hear the footsteps of your opponents because of the obnoxious train passing by on Overpass? Well, you’ll be glad to hear that Valve have addressed this by altering the ambient sounds heard on the map. The volume of the train and the other ambient noises on Overpass has been reduced. Thank you Valve.
The following changes are available in the 1.36.3.5-rc1 CS:GO Beta depot.
[GAMEPLAY]
- General adjustments to ambient sounds:
- Increased resolution and character of reverb effects to better reflect surrounding map geometry
- Small mix adjustments
- Improved vent destruction sounds and increased audible distance.
- Added a new hitbox type for necks and applied it to the existing neck hitbox on character models. Bullets that penetrate the neck into the head will now count as headshots. This should make it more intuitive to tell when an attack from behind will result in a headshot.
- Fixed ‘use’ key to more reliably pick up weapons on the ground and to not drop the active weapon if a replacement weapon cannot be picked up.
